Our staff are supporting an ePetition which is looking to improve access to Brighton Beach as there are currently very little resources available to those with mobility issues. According to Brighton & Hove City Council’s website, there are two all-terrain beach wheelchairs available for hire. Improving accessibility means that everyone – including disabled people, children, the elderly and those with access needs and/or mobility equipment – can enjoy the beach and all it has to offer.
Alexandra Hearn, Branch Manager at our Kemp Town office was the first person to bring this ePetition to our attention. She said: “This cause is so important to me and my family. When my mum was alive, she suffered from Multiple Sclerosis which meant that we had to think really carefully about her access needs everywhere we went. Activities and days out depended on how accessible the location or venue was. Going to the beach is such a simple activity, but something so many of us often take for granted.”
Visit Brighton has a range of general information on accessibility in the city, from activities to venues.
Alexandra said: “I love Brighton and Hove, especially Kemp Town where I work, but it seems surreal that in this modern day and age, we haven’t thought about making our city as accessible as possible. Brighton has so much to offer, but there’s always improvements to be made.”
