Our Portslade and West Hove office is made up of several bustling communities – Portslade itself, West Hove, Southwick and Portslade village (which dates back to the 12th century). So, what is it like living here? We asked Damien Dunford, Branch Manager in our Portslade and West Hove office, to tell us more about the neighbourhood.

What does the Portslade team do?

The team mostly deal with house purchases and sales, so this means we work with a lot of families. From its roots as a village to a developing town, we deal with a variety of property types, from flint buildings, Victorian and Edwardian terraces to more modern homes. There’s something here for everyone.

What makes Portslade and West Hove a great area to buy?

There’s a real community here. Portslade can often be a more affordable option for those who want to be in Brighton or Hove but can’t afford it, or for those who’d like more for their money. A buyer might only be able to afford a flat in the city, but for the same price (or very similar), could move to Portslade and buy a more spacious flat or house. We often have great properties to rent if you’re not in the market to buy.

What local amenities does Portslade have?

There are lots of schools in the area. St Peter’s Community Primary School is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted and we support their summer fair each year. Additionally, there’s Brackenbury Primary School, Benfield Primary School, Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA), Mile Oak Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School – so there’s lots to choose from for families here.

Well connected by bus routes and rail links, Portslade and West Hove appeals to commuters working both locally towards Worthing and Brighton, but also those needing easy access to London. Another brilliant perk about living in Portslade is that it has a lot of free on-street parking – something which is quite rare now in Sussex! In most cases, you can park just minutes away from the high street at no cost.
