On 10th September 2021, The Starr Trust held its tenth annual charity golf day at Manning’s Heath Golf and Wine Estate and raised £6,500 to help young people in Sussex.
On the day, 19 teams of 76 golfers from Sussex, Kent and Hampshire businesses came together to enjoy a fantastic day out to help raise funds for The Starr Trust. The day teed off after breakfast in the club house followed by a start on the 18-hole award-winning waterfall course.
Bedlam Brewery sponsored the day by providing cans of pale ale and pilsner. The Starr Trust team delivered refreshments on the Bedlam Brewery branded golf buggy to teams during the day.
Additionally, the charity’s Sports Starr, 18 year-old Spike, was kindly supporting the event day too. The Trust helped Spike achieve his golfing success over the years. Teams donated to enter a ‘Beat the Starr’ competition, with only 12 players beating Spike by getting closer to the hole.
There were a variety of competitions throughout the day including closest to pin and longest drive. After the game, players retired to the historic club house and heard from the Starr Trust Chairman, Rob Starr.
Rob said: “As Chairman of The Starr Trust and speaking on behalf of the team, the charity’s aim is to always support young people in Sussex, and we’re set to do more of this in the the coming months.”
Alex Mackay, Co-Founder of Mishon Mackay, said: “What a brilliant day coming together to play a spot of golf and most importantly, support our friends at The Starr Trust and raise some money for charity.”
Awards were given to players and bids were made on auction prizes, followed by a BBQ dinner to end the day. The winning team was Gardner & Scardifield, Lancing with runners up TPG Sports Events in Brighton, followed closely by local Brighton supporters Alan Pook and friends. The winning individual was Paul Gargan of Brighton with an impressive 44 points.
William Lewry, from main sponsor IEP Financial based in Hove, said: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for putting on a great event! We hope you’ve enjoyed yourselves and are more familiar with the charity now and will be supporting the Starr Trust going forward. What a talent Spike is too!”
Event organiser, Tracey Starr, said “As ever we are incredibly grateful for everyone’s support and delighted at how much money we managed to raise. All of the staff at Manning’s Heath deserve a massive thank you as they really went above and beyond to make the day run smoothly“.
