Why your property will be OnTheMarket from now on…

25/02/2015

After a long build-up and plenty of hard work, OnTheMarket.com – a brand new property portal – finally launched on Monday 26 January 2015, ready to be a direct competitor to established brands Rightmove and Zoopla.

The new website is being backed by more than 4,000 large, medium and small estate and lettings agency branches nationwide (including ourselves), with many others expected to join in the coming weeks and months now the website is live.

In recent days a multi-million pound advertising campaign has been rolled out – you may have seen the TV ad during the middle of ITV’s Broadchurch on Monday 2 February – to get OnTheMarket’s name in front of a wider audience.

The portal, which is 100% agent owned and controlled, features hundreds of thousands of properties to buy and rent. There is no clutter, third-party advertisements or needless gimmicks; it’s quick and easy to use, it has a slick, understated and professional design, and is fully responsive on all mobile and tablet platforms as the state-of-the-art website seamlessly adapts to fit the screen of any device being used to view it. As more and more people view and browse property on the move, we feel this last measure is especially important.

OnTheMarket’s search function has been designed with usability in mind – it’s cleaner, fresher and more focused than many other portals out there. There will be no annoying spam emails and no potentially misleading valuations based solely on historical stats.

Every property listed will be dealt with by locally visible, office-based estate and letting agents with years of expertise. Landlords, property buyers and vendors will be assured by the fact they can speak face-to-face with whoever is marketing any of the properties featured.

OnTheMarket.com, which is supported by both the NAEA and ARLA, is not supposed to be an exclusive, one-stop property shop. The majority of agents will continue to advertise properties on their own websites and through other marketing means.

One of the key features of OnTheMarket – something that will help increase its traction and traffic – is a ‘one other portal rule’ enforced by OnTheMarket’s founding organisation, Agents’ Mutual. This means that any agent using the new site will only be able to list on one other portal which, for most agents, means retaining Rightmove or Zoopla to go alongside marketing efforts on the new site.

A key aspect to this is that many agent users of OnTheMarket will be uploading properties for sale or rent exclusively to the new site before marketing them on other portals. Known as ‘early-bird’ listings, these allow us to put a vendor’s property in front of an audience of serious buyers who will be using OnTheMarket to get one step ahead of the competition.

Like many other estate agents in Brighton, at Mishon Mackay we have decided to retain Rightmove alongside OnTheMarket. We are confident that it won’t be long before OnTheMarket becomes the website on everyone’s lips when talking about property for sale or rent. Take a look at our current properties marketed on OnTheMarket to see how your property advert could look on the new site.

At Mishon Mackay we can offer guidance on how to sell or let your property as well as a free instant online valuation. You can contact us on: 01273 821 800 for more information.
