In the ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK
Our very own lettings manager Jay Melton-Ball took part in an Ultra White Collar Boxing event this weekend in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK – and he won! The three–round event was held at The Grand Hotel in Brighton and the turnout was excellent.
Jay decided to get involved with this exciting event as Cancer Research UK is a charity that is close to his heart. He wanted to give something back to a great charity and Mishon Mackay were all too happy to support him!
Prior to the competition, Jay entered into an eight-week training programme with Neil Wray from Stingwray Boxing at Underground Gym in Portslade. Jay trained between four and five times a week to ensure he was ready for the fight. The training involved everything from the basics of boxing and sparring to seafront sprints and beach runs to increase stamina. Every boxer who took part was matched with someone of a similar weight and standard to make sure everything was fair and in good spirits.
Speaking about the event, Jay said: “I’ve really loved the experience and the training aspect of things. It’s really taught me how important it is to be dedicated. Neil really helped me too. The competition was tough but I’m so glad I took part – and won! The money raised all goes towards a good cause. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and sponsored me – I raised just under £700.”
A great evening was had by all who took part and those who came to watch. The event not only raises money for a charity, but – just as importantly – it raises awareness of the disease. Congratulations Jay! And thank you to all those who took part, cheered on and donated to this fantastic charity.
