Property of the Month: Aubrey House, Rottingdean

Here at Mishon Mackay, we’re very lucky to have such beautiful properties on our books. And that’s why we’ve decided to start up a ‘Property of the Month’ blog series, so that we can showcase the very best properties that we think you’ll love to have a look at. These are properties where viewings are a must, and we doubt they’ll be on the market for long – so get in there quick.

First up is Aubrey House on The Green in Rottingdean. It’s a truly stunning five bedroom property. Tina Templeman, our Branch Director for Rottingdean said: “I will love showing people round this property, it really is incredible. It has some truly beautiful features. I’d definitely recommend booking a viewing here because it’s so unique.”

The small village of Rottingdean has the best of both worlds. It’s nestled just along the coast from cosmopolitan Brighton, yet has the seaside and Downland walks on its doorstep. Rottingdean is home to a selection of charming pubs, shops and churches. It’s even been home to famous artists.

Aubrey House is surrounded by beautiful scenery. You can even see Rottingdean’s famous windmill from most of the upstairs rooms. What a fantastic view.

The ground floor of this imposing property includes a drawing room, a kitchen/breakfast room, a dining/study room and even a library. What more could you want?

Not only is this quirky property beautiful, but it actually has a lot of history behind it. It’s been owned by artist Edward Burne-Jones and also author Enid Bagnold and her husband Sir Roderick Jones. Rudyard Kipling who used to live in the area has visited here too.

The first and second floors are home to five bedrooms and three bathrooms. Perfect for when guests are staying. There’s enough space to relax in, without getting under each other’s feet. There are also three balconies to choose from, as well as a roof terrace. This really is an ideal place for entertaining.

And what’s more, when it’s glorious sunshine outside there’s the chance to entertain in the exceptional gardens. Imagine hosting parties in the summer months and spending warm evenings eating dinner amongst these beautiful surroundings.

And we couldn’t write a blog about this property without mentioning the feature we love the most – the swimming pool.

This indoor heated swimming pool is in a bespoke Edwin Lutyens-inspired building. There’s also a sauna, shower, cloakroom, kitchen and mezzanine level bedroom. Ideal for having a place for guests to stay, hosting pool parties or just a quiet dip in the pool to relax!

Speaking about the property, the current owner Tara Feld said: “There is so much to love about Aubrey House and as a family, we have! A recent visitor who hadn’t seen it before described our home as ‘magical’. The historic property has totally unique architecture, some rooms large and lavish, others small and cosy. There’s hidden corners to discover and all are flooded with light. The various windows, balconies and terraces offer breath taking views either over the Village Green to the front and protected Downland views to the back. For us, retirement looms and it is time to downsize. But for the next generation who come to live in this wonderful house, they will know they have found something very special indeed.”

If you’d like to book a viewing to see this property, please visit our website or speak to a member of our Rottingdean office on 01273 944 800. And if this property isn’t for you, we’re sure we can find you something that is. See what else the area has to offer.
