Village Life

02/08/2018

When you think of England, you might think of the busy streets of London, the Royal family, or maybe a quaint little village in the heart of the countryside. Well, here in Sussex we have the best of both worlds – we’ve got the seaside, the hustle and bustle of Brighton, and beautiful stretches of countryside where little villages are nestled. And here at Mishon Mackay, we’ve got offices in two such villages: Rottingdean, just along the coast from Brighton, and Hurstpierpoint in West Sussex.

We wanted to give you a few reasons as to why village life is best, so we asked our Branch Managers of Rottingdean and Hurstpierpoint, Tina Templeman and Colin Metcalfe, to give their reasons why you would choose a quiet village over a busy city.

Tina, Branch Director for Rottingdean said: “The community spirit in Rottingdean is fantastic. Everyone is always ready to get involved in community events, and help with fundraising. There is a real sense of everyone looking out for each other. That, coupled with the history of the village, makes it a quaint yet vibrant place to be.

We support Rottingdean Cricket Club as we think it’s vital to get involved with the local community. People might think we’re just estate agents but our ethos at Mishon Mackay is to get as involved within the community as we can – and we wouldn’t have it any other way! It’s lovely to be able to recognise people in the street and chat with the villagers.”

From the late 18th century Rottingdean has attracted visitors wanting a genteel alternative to Brighton. Some famous names to have lived here include painter Sir Edward Burne-Jones and his nephew Rudyard Kipling. Kipling’s old house adjacent to Kipling Gardens is still standing – and we are selling Aubrey House which forms a part of it.

Rottingdean village is very tranquil with an eclectic selection of boutique and artisan shops and eateries, as well as a family friendly beach and easy access into Brighton.

But that’s not all we’ve got to offer. If you’re interested in the Mid Sussex area, we’re bound to have a property you’d love.

Colin Metcalfe, Branch Manager for Hurstpierpoint said: ”I moved here around three years ago from Brighton so I know how some clients might feel moving away from a city to a more tranquil lifestyle in the village. You can get more value for money in this area and still have the mainline station of Hassocks on your doorstep. There’s a more relaxed pace of life in the village and Hurstpierpoint High Street offers an excellent choice of restaurants and bars.

“As a keen cyclist, I take full advantage of the many cycle paths and routes nestled in The Downs. I also enjoy golf and I’m spoilt for choice with the selection of local courses. In our Hurstpierpoint office we are lucky enough to have a mix of modern and older properties. We face exciting challenges every day, from brand new homes, converted apartments, Grade II listed detached country homes and lots of amazing gardens.

“Our office has always been very involved in the community. We sponsor Hurstpierpoint Bowls Club, sell tickets for Hurst Village Cinema and Theatre, help fundraise for Hurstpierpoint’s supporters branch of the RNLI, and enjoy helping out wherever we can with local fundraising events.”
